Making art has always been a way for me to understand my world, and to speak with fewer limitations about what I see. It is a scaffold on which I climb (or dance) in order to gain perspective on many things, such as what is going on inside my own body or taking a closer look at something ordinary in my environment. The resulting pictures not only leave me more room to interpret my own journey, but they have also left room for other people to interpret theirs.
In this way, art has a unique power to propose new relationships as we look from the same perspective or negotiate a new perspective. Sometimes, others see what I am trying to say better than I do, or offer me new insights into ways they see the my work differently than I intended. I am humbled when this happens. It’s this continuous fresh perspective on my own world and the doors it opens to others’ worlds that keep me making art.
So, in viewing these pieces, you are entering my world and seeing pieces of my journey in it. I hope these images create scaffold to climb (dance) a little further in your own journey.
